Sermon - The Role of Women in the Church

Sermon Audio Sermon Video

The role of women in the corporate life of the church is an issue that many Spirit-filled, God-honouring, Bible-believing Christians have come to different conclusions on. We examine 4 common views: Radical Feminism, Paternalism, Egalitarianism and Complementarianism, which all sound a little scary, but they're not so bad once you get to know them! The first 2 views are more extreme and most Christians would agree that they do not fit with the teaching of Scripture as reflecting God's intention for the Church. The latter 2 views, however, both take the Bible seriously as God's inspired and authoritative guide for belief and practice today.

This message does not seek to examine all of the arguments for and against each view - that would take a really long time - but rather to briefly portray the emphasis of each and indicate some of the reason why our church teaches the complementarian view, which is that men and women are created equal but different. We should not compete with one another but rather enjoy the way that God has designed us to complement each other and fulfil our respective roles in love and humility.
